Medical City McKinney
Medical City McKinney aka Med City McKinney is not typically known throughout the birth community for their support of physiological, or natural birth. To be clear, they are far from the only hospital in the DFW metro with this reputation.
If you need to transfer to a hopital from Allen Birthing Center or if you want a hospital birth with a midwife from Allen Birthing & Wellness, this is the hospital you will use. Not everyone in Allen, Plano, Frisco, Prosper, Melissa, Richardson, or Carrolton wants to drive to Fort Worth or Dallas in labor to give birth - that’s understandable. It’s a long and likely uncomfortable drive, possibly through a lot of traffic.
So, that leaves Med City McKinney, which is not a ‘bad’ hospital. It’s just not a hospital that has a reputation for typically aligning with natural birth goals by way of their OBs, nursing support staff, and hospital policies. I was recently informed that they don’t even have nitrous oxide, which shocked me because it is becoming the standard across birth centers and hospitals.
But no worries, because there’s a work-around if this is your hospital; a cheat code, if you will. midwives and doulas. MIDWIVES AND DOULAS. This your hospital? Get yourself a midwife and a doula. Risked out of midwifery care? Then you 1000% need a doula, now more than ever.
