Andrew’s Women’s Hospital at Baylor All Saints Downtown Fort Worth
We have two hospital labor and delivery options in downtown Fort Worth: Harris Downtown and Baylor Scott & White All Saints Andrew’s Women’s Hospital. I blogged about Harris in a previous blog post and so today I’m just going to focus on the hospital with many names - BSW All Saints Downtown Andrew’s Women’s Hospital. You will typically hear this hospital referred to as All Saints or Baylor Downtown.
I have personally had good experiences here, however, there are many that haven’t. When I help mom’s process their past birthing experiences, I do hear a lot of negative things come up that primarily relate to a lack of lactation resources as well as a tendency to not favor natural birth practices or respect the Golden Hour. All of those are valid concerns and I see that myself. Many of these obstacles can be negated through having a doula at your birth.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re birthing here: they do not have peanut balls and birthing balls in every room, not every nurse is going to spend time with you or be supportive of natural birth or positioning (although there are some great nurses that will - its’ hit or miss), and lactation support is very lackluster. Your doula can help avoid all of these issues by providing hands on labor and birth support, bringing a peanut and birth ball and helping you into positions to shorten and advance labor as well as provide pain relief, and also help you with lactation support. Without a doula, you can come across these issues anywhere but it’s’ probably a bit more likely here. With a doula, a lot of these issues can be mitigated.
